Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair


REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Master Cylinder And Brake Booster:





1. Drain brake fluid and move the clutch fluid reservoir bracket (M/T).
2. Remove the center member assembly mounting bolts and engine mount bracket.
3. Remove the air conditioning compressor mounting bolts and the high pressure hose clamp.
4. Remove the power steering pressure hose, pipe and return pipe clamp mounting bolts.
5. Remove the brake pipe connection.
6. Remove the master cylinder assembly.
7. Remove the vacuum hose with built in check valve.
8. Remove the fitting and brake pedal return spring.
9. Remove the snap pin, washer and clevis pin.

Remove Brake Booster:





10. Slide the engine forward and remove the brake booster and sealer.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

Lubrication Points On Brake Booster:





- Refer to the illustration for lubrication points.
- Bleed hydraulic system. Refer to "Bleeding Brake System."

Install Vacuum Hose:





- Install the vacuum hose to the brake booster nipple as shown in the figure. Secure the hose with the hose clip.Install the other end of the vacuum hose fully onto its port on the engine. Secure the hose using the hose clip.

CAUTION: The check valve and the pipe part of the brake booster must not contact each other. Also, connect so that the marking faces upwards.
