Recall - Front Passenger Seat Back: Overview

NO.: SR-97-001
DATE: June, 1997
MODEL: 1997 Eclipse / Eclipse Spyder

SUBJECT:
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BACK SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN

PURPOSE
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain 1997 Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder models to replace the front passenger seat backs. Vehicles built between March 18, 1997 and March 26, 1997 may have poor welds attaching the head restraint guide bracket to the front passenger seat back frame. Such poor welds could fail in a collision and cause injury or death to the passenger.

The new front passenger seat back is listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin. Follow the instructions in this campaign bulletin to replace the front passenger seat back.

AFFECTED VEHICLE
Certain 1997 Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder models built between 3/18/97 and 3/26/97

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
A letter will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles, instructing them to call MMSA Customer Service Dept. and arrange to return their vehicle to a Mitsubishi dealer to have this campaign procedure performed at no charge. A copy of this letter is shown.

The appropriate seat back assembly will automatically be sent to the customer's requested dealership. The dealer should advise the vehicle owner to make an appointment to ensure the repair parts are available at the dealership.
