During Engine Overhaul

REPLACEMENT
Refer to the illustration for the service procedure, noting the following:

- Before removing the rocker arm and shaft assemblies, install tool No. MD998443, or equivalent, to prevent adjuster from dropping.

INSTALLATION
Reverse the removal procedure to install, noting the following:
- When installing the lash adjusters:

1. Immerse the lash adjuster in clean diesel fuel.
2. Move the plunger up and down 4 or 5 times while pushing down lightly on the check ball in order to bleed out the air.

3. Insert the lash adjuster to rocker arm, being careful not to spill the diesel fuel. Then use the lash adjuster holder tool No. MD998443, or equivalent, to prevent the adjuster from falling while installing it.
4. When installing the rocker shaft spring/rocker arms and rocker arm shaft temporarily tighten the rocker shaft with the bolt so that all rocker arms on the inlet valve side do not push the valves.

5. Fit the rocker shaft spring from the above and position it so that it is right angles to the plug guide.

NOTE: Install the rocker shaft spring before installing the exhaust side rocker arms and rocker arm shaft.

6. Remove the tool for securing the lash adjuster.
7. Make sure that the notch in the rocker arm shaft is in the direction as illustrated.

8. Use the camshaft oil seal installation tool MD998713, or equivalent, to install the camshaft oil seal.
