PCM - Driveability Concerns/DTC's Set: Overview

NO.: 95-13-001
DATE: April, 1995
MODEL: 1995 Eclipse

SUBJECT:
PCM REPROGRAMMING OR REPLACEMENT

This Technical Service Bulletin replaces TSB-94-13-003 Rev that was issued in February, 1995. Changes include reprogramming instructions for DTC 113 and corrected warranty labor operation numbers.

PURPOSE

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 111, DTC 113, or DTC 126 or poor driveability may be due to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software complications. After performing diagnostic procedures, PCM reprogramming or replacement can eliminate these conditions.

VEHICLES AFFECTED

DTC 111, DTC 126 OR POOR DRIVEABILITY

Vehicle: 1995 Eclipse non-turbo only
Build Date: Before 9/11/94
VIN: Before VIN 4A3A**4Y*SE064919

DTC 113

Vehicle: 1995 Eclipse non-turbo manual transmission only
Build Date: 9/11/94 to 2/15/95
VIN: 4A3A**4Y*SE064918 to 4A3A**4Y*SE155130

(* The number or letter designation in these positions depends on the individual vehicle.)

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

DTC 111 and DTC 126 (Scan tool codes P0411 and P0138)

Affected vehicles may experience one or more of the following:

^ Check Engine/Malfunction Indicator Lamp comes on for DTC 111.
^ Check Engine/Malfunction Indicator Lamp comes on for DTC 126.
^ Engine stalls during warm-up at cold ambient temperatures.
^ Long restart times after stall at cold ambient temperatures.
^ Rough idle after warm engine startup.
^ Engine rpm rises suddenly when air conditioning is turned on.
^ On manual transmission models, engine rpm drops suddenly after releasing the clutch.

On manual transmission models, engine surges under light acceleration.

On affected vehicles, DTC 111 and DTC 126 may be due to the PCM software program.

After normal diagnosis, the pulsed secondary air injection (aspirator) valve must be checked and replaced if necessary. Then the following PCM procedures must be performed:

^ On vehicles produced on or before 6/16/94, reprogram the PCM, using reprogramming cartridge MIT992006. This cartridge is included in Reprogramming Kit MIT992000-A, which was distributed to dealers earlier this year. Refer to the "PROCEDURE" section of this Technical Service Bulletin for details.

^ On vehicles produced from 6/17/94 to 9/10/94, install a new, recalibrated PCM. Refer to the chart on page 4 of this Technical Service Bulletin for details.

DTC 113 (Scan tool code P0441)

On affected vehicles, DTC 113 may be due to the PCM software program. To eliminate DTC 113, reprogramming cartridge MIT992007 has been designed to modify the PCM program. This cartridge was shipped to dealers during the week of March 13,1995.

If a new PCM (Part No. MO5269656 or MO5269653) was installed on a vehicle produced between 6/16/94 and 9/10/94 to eliminate DTC 111, DTC 126 or poor driveability, you may need to reprogram the PCM in order to eliminate DTC 113.
