Electronic Pinion Factor
The pinion supplies distance pulses to the engine control module (ECM). These pulses are used to calculate speed and mileage. A pinion factor is stored in the TCM to provide the appropriate distance pulses for a vehicle. For F4AC1 vehicles, the pinion factor is a set value programmed into the TCM at the factory.Electronic Pinion Factor Notes:
1) The vehicle's speedometer will not operate unless a pinion factor is stored in an installed TCM.
2) The pinion factor can only be changed once.
3) If a new TCM is installed in a vehicle or a TCM is removed from one vehicle and placed in another, the pinion factor must be reprogrammed. The pinion factor values for each model year are:
- 1995 Model Year = 17540
- 1996 Model Year = 23382
