Interior Trim - Improve Fit On Liftgate
NO. TSB-94-52A-003DATE: October, 1994
MODEL: 1995 Eclipse
SUBJECT:
IMPROVE "FIT" FOR LIFTGATE INTERIOR TRIM
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Some 1995 Eclipses may exhibit a small gap or distortion between the upper and side trims on the interior of the liftgate. The condition is usually discovered while the liftgate is open. This bulletin describes how to install adhesive-backed foam on the trim pieces to improve fit and appearance.
DESCRIPTION
Use the following procedure to diagnose and correct a gap or distortion between the liftgate interior side trim and upper trim.
1. Open the liftgate and observe the fit between the left/right side trims and upper trim. In both locations, the trim should join together without a gap or distortion. If a gap or distortion is present, go to Step 2.
2. Ensure that the retaining clips and trim buttons on the left and right trim pieces are properly seated. (Each trim piece has four retaining clips and one trim button.) If all retaining clips and buttons are properly seated and a gap or distortion is still present, go to Step 3.
3. Remove the trim buttons connecting the side trim to the lower trim. Then, remove the left and right side trim using a trim stick.
4. Apply single-sided adhesive-backed foam (approximately 30 mm wide, 100 mm long, and 10 mm thick) to the back of each side trim. Refer to the illustration for proper location of the foam.
5. Reinstall the left and right side trim, making sure the retaining clips and trim buttons are fully seated.
6. If a gap between the side trim and top trim is still present, replace the left and right side trim. Refer to the latest 1995 Eclipse parts microfiche for correct part numbers.
