CAMSHAFT SPROCKET SERVICE
PURPOSE
This bulletin is concerned with the proper installation of the camshaft sprocket on certain vehicles when performing an engine repair. The camshaft sprockets on a few 1995 Eclipses equipped with the 420A engine had two timing marks on them.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles affected by this bulletin are certain 1995 Eclipses with 420A 2.0 liter 16-valve engines built between August 1, 1994 and October 31, 1994 bearing build date codes 057 through 148. The build date code is plainly visible on a sticker on the right rear corner of the valve cover as shown.
SYMPTOMS/CONDITIONS
An engine may be damaged by incorrect installation of the camshaft sprocket during repair.
WARRANTY CONSIDERATIONS
Standard warranty procedures apply.
PROCEDURE
When replacing a camshaft sprocket or setting the cam timing as described in the procedure on Page 11B-30 of the 1995 Eclipse Service Manual, be sure to use the timing mark adjacent to the sprocket spoke stamped "609" as shown below. DO NOT use the timing mark located next to the spoke stamped "2.0L FRONT". Refer to the illustrations.
