Replacement
REMOVAL
1. Follow removal steps outlined in illustration, noting the following.
2. Remove the all oil pan bolts.
NOTE: Never use a screwdriver or chisel, instead of the special tool. Otherwise, the oil pan flange will be deformed and oil leaks.
3. Drive in the special tool between the cylinder block and oil pan.
4. Use the special tool to remove the plug cap.
INSTALLATION
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order noting the following.
2. Use a socket wrench to press-in the oil seal into front case.
3. Use the special tool to install the crankshaft front oil seal into front case.
4. Coat the gear with plenty of engine oil, and align the two timing marks.
5. Set the special tool on the front end of the crankshaft and apply a thin coat of engine oil to the outer circumference of the special tool to install the front case.
6. Install the front case assembly through a new front case gasket and temporarily tighten the flange bolts (other than those for tightening the filter bracket).
7. Insert a Phillips screwdriver into a hole in the left side of the cylinder block to lock the counterbalance shaft.
8. Secure the oil pump driven gear onto the left counterbalance shaft by tightening the driven gear bolt to specified torque.
9. Install a new O-ring to the groove of front case.
10. Use the special tool to install the plug cap and tighten to specified torque.
11. Clean both mating surfaces of oil pan and cylinder block.
12. Apply a 4 mm (0.16 inch) wide bead of MITSUBISHI GENUINE PART No. MD970389, or equivalent to the entire circumference of the oil pan flange.
13. Install the oil pan within 15 minutes after applying sealant.
14. Take a note of the difference in bolt lengths at the location shown.
15. First insert the oil cooler projecting stopper in the oil filter bracket groove and then tighten the oil cooler bolts.
16. Clean the installation surface of the filter bracket.
17. Apply engine oil to the O-ring of the oil filter.
18. Screw the oil filter in until the O-ring contacts the bracket. Then tighten 3/4 turn or tighten to a torque of 17 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
NOTE: For MD135737, tighten one turn, or tighten to a torque of 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.) after the O-ring contacts the bracket.
19. Install the drain plug gasket in the direction shown.
