Headliner - Front Edge Sags

HEADLINER SAG

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On affected vehicles, the front edge of the headliner may pull away from the windshield, causing a sagging appearance. This Technical Service Bulletin contains the repair procedure for installing hook-and-loop fasteners to eliminate headliner sag.

VEHICLES AFFECTED
Vehicle: 1995 Eclipse models equipped with sunroof
Build Date: 6/3/94 through 8/17/94
VIN: Sequence numbers SE020511 to SE052662

PROCEDURE
The following materials are required for this procedure:

^ 3M ATD 8608 Primer or equivalent
^ 3M 6484 Dual-Lock (1" wide) or equivalent - Use the fine side only
^ 3M 6481 Hook-and-Loop (1/2" wide) or equivalent - Use the loop (fuzzy) side only

1. Place a towel or other protective cover on the dash.

2. Remove right and left sunvisors and sunvisor clips.

3. Remove the sunroof switch plate.

4. Apply 3M ATD 8608 primer or equivalent along the inside front edge of the headliner. Use care to prevent staining the outside of the headliner. Allow the primer to dry for approximately ten minutes.

Dual Lock:





5. Dual-Lock preparation and installation:
a. Cut seven 4" strips of the 3M 6484 Dual-Lock (fine side only).
b. Cut each strip in half lengthwise, making each strip 1/2" X 4"

Windshield:





c. Remove the backing and affix the seven Dual-Lock strips along the top edge of the windshield, against the sheet metal flange. Do not affix the Dual-Lock strips beyond the windshield blackout line.

6. Hook-and-Loop preparation and installation:
a. Cut seven 4" strips of the 3M 6481 Hook-and Loop (fuzzy side only).
b. After the primer is dry to the touch, remove the backing and affix the Hook- and-Loop strips along the front edge of the inside of the headliner.

7. Carefully pull the headliner taut (leaving no slack) against the front edge of the windshield. Press the Hook-and-Loop firmly to the Dual-Lock.

8. Reinstall the sunroof switch plate.

9. Reinstall the sunvisors and sunvisor clips.
