THEFT-ALARM RANDOM ACTIVATION
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On affected vehicles, excessive alarm switch clearance to the hood may cause the theft alarm may activate intermittently during extreme temperature change or gusts of wind. The problem may be due to the hood alarm switch being minimally engaged with the hood closed. Installing a new attaching bolt and two washers between the hood switch bracket and vehicle body will allow the switch to fully disengage with the hood closed.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
1995 Eclipse models produced before 6/1/95 equipped with factory-installed alarm system
PROCEDURE
1. Follow the theft-alarm system operation checks on page 54-143 of the 1995 Eclipse service manual.
a. If the system does not operate normally, follow the troubleshooting procedures on pages 54-144 through 54-148.
b. If the system operates normally, go to Step 2.
2. Remove the hood alarm switch. Discard the attaching bolt.
3. Install two washers between the hood switch bracket and vehicle body as shown. Use the washers listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.
4. Reinstall the hood alarm switch, using a new attaching bolt listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.
