Power Seat - Motor Replacement Procedure

POWER SEAT SLIDE MOTOR

PURPOSE
Replacement parts are now available for the power seat slide motor if the motor requires replacement. This bulletin describes how to install the new slide motor. The motor comes in a repair kit which includes the motor subharness, tie wrap, and four screws.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
1995-1999 Eclipse; 1996-1999 Eclipse Spyder

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the entire driver's seat assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Group 52A of the appropriate service manual.





2. Note the location of the tie wrap securing the power seat slide motor harness. Remove the tie wrap.





3. Using pliers, squeeze the harness retaining clip to remove the harness connector from the harness tray.





4. Disconnect the slide motor from the harness.





5. Using a 1/4" ratchet, extension, and T-20 Torx drive socket, remove and discard the 4 motor bracket screws. For the left side motor bracket screws, use a universal adapter as shown. (Left side as viewed with seat installed in the vehicle)





6. Remove the flex shaft from the left side reducer, and remove the slide motor assembly. If necessary, cut the motor connector harness wires in order to remove the motor assembly from the seat frame.





7. Place the motor in a bench vise. Remove the flex-shafts from the motor.





8. Attach the flex-shafts (removed in Step 7) to the new motor provided in the repair kit. Install the flex-shafts as shown.




9. Place the new motor into the seat frame.

10. Install the flex-shafts into the reducers.

11. Using a 1/4" ratchet, extension, and T-20 Torx drive socket, install the 4 new motor bracket screws provided in the repair kit. For the left side,use a universal adapter as shown.





12. Install the subharness (provided in the repair kit) to the new motor as shown.

13. Attach the subharness to the existing wiring harness.





14. Insert the retainer clip into the motor tray, then secure the wiring harness with the tie wrap as shown. Cut off excess tie wrap ends.

15. Reinstall the seat. Refer to Group 52A of the appropriate service manual for installation instructions.

16. Confirm that the power seat operates properly.
