SUBJECT:
DOOR RATTLE REPAIR PROCEDURES

PURPOSE

This bulletin contains repair procedures to correct various door and door window popping noises, rattles, and squeaks on 1995 and 1996 Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

A. Popping noise from the front area of the door glass while driving
This usually happens while driving with the glass in the fully-raised position. The cause may be the plastic glass guide rubbing against the metal glass guide track after the grease deteriorates. Add grease to the guide track to eliminate the noise.

B. Large rattling noise from the front of the door glass when closing the door (Vehicles produced between 5/95 and 5/96) This noise is heard when closing the door with the glass in the half to fully open position. The cause may be the glass guide bracket spreading. Replace the glass guide with a new stronger guide.

C. Small rattle at the top of the door glass while driving
(Vehicles produced before 8/1/96) This rattle is usually heard while driving with the window fully open and is caused by the outer beltline moulding vibrating against the body. To verify this rattle, push against the outer part of the moulding then close the door, repeating this procedure the entire length of the moulding, until the noise is eliminated. Place foam tape to the body flange under the moulding to correct this condition.

D. Small squeak (itching noise) during raising or lowering of the door glass The inner beltline moulding can rub against the trim and weatherstrip causing the squeak. Add double-sided tape or foam tape to eliminate the noise.
