No Second, Miscellaneous Codes, Tapping Noise

A no second (shifts 1, 3, 4) condition, which may cause a code for pulse generators or shifts not completed may be caused by missing or mis-positioned shift control stopper plates. Some models may offer codes for the kickdown servo switch as well as an incorrect gear ratio. The Mitsubishi part number for the plate is MD-704039.

Models built after May of 1992 may have a loud tapping noise when shifted in and out of a forward range. This can be caused by a missing or mis-positioned N-D control valve stopper plate. The Mitsubishi part number for the plate is MD-738085.

The illustration indicates the proper location for all three plates.
