Variable Induction Control Actuator: Description and Operation

Variable Intake Induction Control Servo Circuit:

The Variable Induction Control Servo (VICS) creates a variable length intake air path in the intake manifold plenum chamber. The system improves the resonance induced inertia charging effect, yielding higher torque and a wider torque band. Intake track length is controlled within the plenum chamber by opening the shutter valves to the shorter intake path above 5000 rpm and closing them below 5000 rpm.

Operation of the shutter valves is done by a DC motor mounted on the outside of the intake manifold. The ECU controls it by switching current polarity to the motor, to open or close the shutter valves.
