Parking Brake System: Service and Repair
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheels.2. Remove rear disc caliper from adapter as outlined under Brake Pad.

3. Disassemble parking brakes in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 7, noting the following:
a. When removing speed sensor from knuckle, use care not to hit pole piece at its tip against the rotor teeth or other parts.
b. Using axle shaft holding tool No. MB990767-01, or equivalent, secure axle shaft and remove companion flange self locking nut.
c. Using axle shaft puller tool Nos. MB990211-01 and MB990241-01, or equivalents, remove axle shaft from trailing arm.
4. Reverse numbered sequence shown in Fig. 7 to assemble parking brakes, noting the following:

a. Install shoe on anchor spring, Fig. 9. Each shoe to anchor spring has a unique spring load and spring marked "a" is painted for identification. Figure shown is for left wheel.
b. Install adjuster facing left adjusting bolt to vehicle front and right adjusting bolt to vehicle rear.
c. Secure axle shaft using special tool and install companion flange self locking nut.

d. After tightening flange nut to specifications, align with spindle's indentation and crimp, Fig. 10.
e. Insert a 0.008-0.028 inch feeler gauge between speed sensor pole piece and rotor teeth and tighten speed sensor in position where gap is within this range over entire circumference.
