Clutch Pedal Assembly: Adjustments

Fig. 5 Clutch Pedal Height Inspection:





1. Measure clutch pedal height as shown, Fig. 5.
3. Clutch pedal height should be 7.20-7.40 inches.
4. If clutch pedal height is not as specified, adjust as follows:
a. On models less cruise control, turn and adjust bolt to obtain correct pedal height.
b. On models with cruise control, disconnect clutch switch and turn switch to obtain correct pedal height.

5. Measure clutch pedal stroke, Fig. 6. If pedal stroke is not 6.29 inches or more, turn pushrod to obtain correct stroke.

6. Release pedal gradually from its full stroke position to measure amount of return made by pedal until interlock switch makes as operating sound, Fig. 7.
7. If amount of pedal return is not 0.394-0.591 inch, adjust by loosening locknut and turning interlock switch.

8. Measure pedal play by depressing pedal two or three times to eliminate booster negative pressure with engine off, then push pedal with finger to measure play, Fig. 8.

9. Measure clearance at point where clutch disengages, Fig. 9. Engine must be idling.
10. Bleed hydraulic system or check master cylinder, release cylinder and hoses if clutch pedal play and clearance are not as follows:
a. Total play should be 0.49-0.79 inch.
b. Clearance from floorboard to clutch pedal pad with pedal depressed should be 2.2 inches or more.
