SUBJECT:
REMANUFACTURED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PROGRAM UPDATE
PURPOSE
In a continuing effort to improve the quality of remanufactured transmissions, MMSA Quality Assurance Department is requesting dealers to identify CRS units that fail under the terms of the CRS 12-month/unlimited mileage warranty. Some replacement A/T units now include a brightly-colored notice asking it the new unit will replace a remanufactured A/T unit that failed within the terms of the parts warranty. It so, the dealer must complete A/T Diagnostic Worksheet (also included with the new unit) and the information at the bottom of the notice, and fax these documents to the MMSA Quality Assurance Department (714-892-4131).
The dealer will then be contacted within three business days with instructions concerning the disposition of the failed A/T unit. If for some reason you are not contacted within three business days, return the failed A/T unit to CRS through normal parts channels.
Do not disassemble any failed CRS remanufactured A/T unit that is within the terms of the parts warranty. These units can be identified by the metal CRS tag bolted to the unit at the oil pan or differential cover. You may remove only the oil pan to examine the contaminants in the pan.
IMPORTANT
Disassembly of a failed remanufactured A/T unit covered under the parts warranty (except for the oil pan and any components removed for installation of the new A/T unit) may result in chargeback to the dealer.
Dealers may overhaul remanufactured A/T units that are out of terms of the parts warranty, original equipment A/T units, and new replacement A/T units if it is considered cost-effective to do so. The quality of the repair and the integrity of the overhauled unit is the dealer's responsibility.
This bulletin contains an A/T Evaluation Chart which are guidelines that dealers should follow when replacing a reman A/T unit. When considering overhauling an A/T unit, refer to the attached photos for inspection criteria.
