Shift Cable: Adjustments

Fig. 17 Shift Lock Cable Adjustment:

1. With vehicle stopped and engine off, remove floor console and place selector lever in Park position.
2. Place ignition key in Lock position, then loosen key interlock cable nut, Fig. 17.
3. While pressing gently upon lock cam in direction of arrow, Fig. 17, press on cable to remove slack, then tighten nut.
4. Install console, then inspect key interlock system as follows:
a. Ensure selector lever cannot be moved out of Park position with ignition key in Lock position or removed and brake pedal depressed.
b. Ensure selector lever can be moved out of Park position with ignition key in Accessory position, brake pedal depressed and selector lever button pressed.
c. Ensure ignition key cannot be turned to Lock position with selector lever in any position other than Park.
d. Ensure ignition key can be smoothly turned to Lock position with selector lever in Park position and lever button released.
