Automatic Transaxle
1. Place gear selector lever into Neutral position.2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Drain transaxle oil into appropriate container and remove front and side lower covers.
4. Remove battery and battery tray, then the washer tank.
5. Remove air cleaner cover and air intake hose.
6. Disconnect transaxle control and speedometer cables.
7. Disconnect oil cooler lines.
8. Disconnect Park/Neutral position and kickdown servo switches.
9. Disconnect pulse generator and oil temperature sensor.
10. Raise transaxle to release pressure on transaxle mount bracket using suitable jack stand, then disconnect transaxle mount.
11. Loosen tie rod end nut then disconnect tie rod from knuckle using steering linkage puller tool No. MB991113-01, or equivalent. Ensure tie cord of tool is tied off correctly.
12. Repeat step 11 on lower ball joint.
13. With transaxle properly supported, remove right-hand crossmember, Fig. 4.

14. Remove starter electrical connections, then the starter assembly.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque starter bolts to 22 ft. lbs.
b. Torque right-hand crossmember bolts to 43-51 ft. lbs.
c. Torque lower ball joint nut to 43-52 ft. lbs. and tie rod end nut to 22 ft. lbs.
d. Torque transaxle mount bracket bolts to 51 ft. lbs.
