Spark Plug Wires

Ignition Wire Inspection:





1. Visually inspect the ignition wires for the following:
- Insulation for swelling or breakdown due to fuel, oil, grease or etc.
- Insulation for cracks or breaks.
- Insulator Boots for swelling or breakdown due to fuel, oil, grease or etc.
- Insulator Boots for cracks or breaks.
- Terminal Ends for corrosion, cracks or looseness.

Spark Plug Cable Test:





2. Disconnect, one at a time, each of the spark plug cables while the engine is idling to check whether the engine's running performance changes or not.
CAUTION:
Wear rubber gloves while doing so.

3. If the engine performance does not change, check the resistance of the spark plug cable, and check the spark plug itself.

Ignition Wire Resistance Test:





4. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the terminal ends. The maximum measured resistance should be 22,000 ohms.
Replace the wire if it fails the above test.
