Intercooler: Description and Operation

PURPOSE/OPERATION
The intercooler is a heat exchanger designed to increase intake air density by removing excess heat from the intake air. Cooling the intake air increases the air density and the efficiency of the combustion mixture, this helps to reduce combustion chamber temperature, reducing the chance of engine ping, allowing higher boost pressures and increasing engine output.
