Throttle Body Cleaning Procedure
Throttle Body:
NOTE: Never allow cleaning solvent to flow into the bypass passage. Disconnect the air intake hose from the throttle body and inspect the throttle valve surface (for carbon deposits), by opening the valve.
1. Run the engine until warm.
2. Remove the air intake hose from the throttle body. Plug the air bypass passages before cleaning.
3. Spray cleaning solvent into the valve through the throttle body intake port and leave it for about 5 minutes.
4. Start the engine, race it several times and let it idle for about 1 minute.
NOTE: If the idle speed becomes unstable (or if the engine stalls), slightly open the throttle valve to keep the engine running.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the throttle valve surface is free of carbon deposits.
6. Attach the air intake hose.
7. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for more than 10 seconds and connect it (to clear any codes that are set, and reset adaptive memory).
8. Adjust the idle speed and throttle position sensor.
NOTE: If the idle speed hunts after being adjusted, reset adaptive memory by disconnecting the negative battery cable for more than ten seconds, then recheck idle.
