1. Raise and support vehicle and remove wheel.Fig. 3 Exploded View Of Front Disc Brake Caliper:
2. Remove pad pin clip and while holding cross spring with hand, remove pad pins, Fig. 3.
3. Using a suitable screwdriver, remove pads and shims.
Fig. 2 Hub And Brake Drag Torque Measurement:
4. Measure rotating torque of hub with brake pads removed using a suitable spring scale, Fig. 2.
5. Clean piston surface and push into caliper using suitable tool. Ensure piston boot does not become wedged.
6. Apply repair kit grease to both sides of inner shims. Ensure grease does not come in contact with frictional surface of brake pads, grease should never squeeze out from around shim.
7. Check brake drag as follows:
a. Start engine and hold brake pedal down for five seconds.
b. Stop engine and turn brake rotor forward ten turns.
c. Check brake drag using suitable tool.
d. If the difference between brake drag torque and hub torque exceeds 3 ft. lbs., disassemble caliper assembly, clean and check for corrosion, worn or damaged parts.
