EGR Temperature Sensor: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION

Using Scan tool

Check Item: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor.
Data Display: Sensor Temperature.
Check Conditions: Engine is warmed up and is maintained in a constant state for 2 minutes or more during the test.
- With engine at idle (750 rpm) should read 70°C (158°F) or less.
- With engine at 3500 rpm should read 70°C (158°F) or more.

Sensor Inspection

1. Place the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor in water and then measure the resistance value between terminals 1 and 2 while increasing the water temperature. Verify the following specifications;

At 50°C (122°F) resistance: 60 - 83 k ohms
At 100°C (212°F) resistance: 11 - 14 k ohms

If out of specification, replace the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor.

Harness Inspection Procedure

1. Measure the power supply voltage.
- Connector disconnected.
- Ignition Switch ON.
- Voltage should read 4.3 - 4.7 volts.

If OK - go to step 2.
If not OK - Repair the harness (H 2 - C50-5 9).

2. Check for continuity of the ground circuit.
- Connector disconnected.

If OK - END.
If not OK - Repair the harness (H 1 C50-5 12).
