Throttle Position Switch: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION








Using Scan tool

Check Item: Idle position switch.
Data Display: Switch state.
Check Conditions: Ignition Switch: ON (check by operating accelerator pedal repeatedly.
- With the Throttle valve at idle position: indication is ON.
- With the Throttle valve off idle position: indication is OFF.

Switch Inspection





1. Disconnect the Idle Position Switch connector.
2. Check the continuity between terminal 3 and sensor ground.

Accelerator pedal depressed: NO continuity.
Accelerator pedal released: continuity.

3. If out of specification replace the Idle Position Switch.

Harness Inspection Procedure





1. Measure the power supply voltage of the idle position switch.
- Connector disconnected.
- Ignition Switch ON.
- Voltage should be 4.0 volts or more.

If OK - END.
If not OK - Repair the harness. (I3 - C50-5 17).

Troubleshooting Hints
If the Idle Position Switch harness and individual part check results are normal but the Idle Position Switch output is abnormal, check for the following items.
- Poorly adjusted accelerator cable or auto-cruise control cable.
- Poorly adjusted Idle Position Switch.
