Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION





Using Scan tool

Check Item: Park Neutral Position Switch.
Data Display: Switch state.
Check Conditions: Ignition Switch ON.
- Park or Neutral position should read P or N.
- Drive,2,Low or Reverse position should read D,2,L or R.

Harness Inspection Procedure





1. Measure the power supply voltage of the Park Neutral Position Switch.
- Engine Control Module connector disconnected.
- Park Neutral Position Switch connector disconnected.
- Ignition Switch START and ON.
- Voltage should read system voltage.

If OK - go to step 2.
If not OK - Check the power supply circuit.





2. Measure the input voltage of the Engine Control Module.
- Engine Control Module Connector connected.
- Park Neutral Position Switch connector disconnected.
- Ignition Switch ON.
- Voltage should read system voltage.

If OK - go to step 3.
If not OK - Repair the harness (H11 - C50-5 13).





3. Measure the input voltage of Engine Control Module.
- Engine Control Module connector disconnected.
- Park Neutral Position Switch connector connected.
- Select lever park range.
- Ignition Switch START.
- Voltage should read 8 volts or more.

If OK - END.
If not OK - Repair the harness (H 10 C50-5 11).

Troubleshooting Hints
If the Transaxle Range Switch harness check is normal but the inhibitor switch output is abnormal, check the control cable adjustment.
