Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Testing and Inspection
INSPECTIONUsing Scan tool
Check Item: Intake Air Temperature Sensor
Data Display: Sensor temperature
Check Conditions:
- Ignition Switch ON or engine running
With intake air temperature of -20°C (-4°F): test specification of -20°C.
With intake air temperature of 0°C (0°F): test specification of 0°C.
With intake air temperature of 20°C (68°F): test specification of 20°C.
With intake air temperature of 40°C (104°F): test specification of 40°C.
With intake air temperature of 80°C (176°F): test specification of 80°C.
Sensor Inspection
1. Disconnect the Volume Air Flow Sensor connectors.
2. Measure resistance between terminals 4 and 6.
With temperature 0°C (32°F): Resistance 6.0 k ohms.
With temperature 20°C (68°F): Resistance 2.7 k ohms.
With temperature 80°C (176°F): Resistance 0.4 k ohms.
3. Measure resistance while heating the sensor using a heat source.
Temperature goes higher: Resistance gets smaller.
4. If the value deviates from the standard value or the resistance remains unchanged, replace the Volume Air Flow Sensor assembly.
Harness Inspection Procedure
1. Check for continuity of the ground circuit.
- Connector disconnected.
If OK - go to step 2.
If not OK - Repair the harness (H6 - C50-5 12)
2. Measure the power supply voltage.
- Connector disconnected.
- Ignition Switch ON.
- Voltage should read 4.5 - 4.9 volts
-
If OK - END
If not OK - Repair the harness (H4 - C50-5 10)
Troubleshooting Hints
The Intake Air Temperature Sensor senses the intake air temperature in the air cleaner to indicate a temperature different from outside temperature.
