Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection
Ignition Coil Connector:
1. With ignition switch in the off position, disconnect the primary wires from the ignition coil.
2. Using an appropriate Ohmmeter with a minimum of 10 meg-Ohm impedance, connect the test leads to the primary coil terminals #1 and #2.
Primary Coil Resistance: 0.9 - 1.1 Ohms
3. Connect the ohm meter leads between the positive primary terminal #1 and the secondary high Voltage terminal.
Secondary Coil Resistance: 19k - 27k Ohms
4. Inspect the primary and secondary coil connections.
5. Inspect the ignition coil for signs of physical damage such as:
- Cracks in the case
- Signs of leakage
- Carbon tracks
- Burned, melted or discolored plastic
6. If any of the above test results are not within specifications or physical damage is apparent, replace the ignition coil.
