Valve Guide Seal: Service and Repair
REMOVAL SERVICE POINTSNote: Mitsubishi manuals for this model do NOT offer an on engine valve guide seal replacement procedure. The procedure the manual does offer follows:
Note: Keep removed parts in order according to the cylinder number and intake/exhaust.
1. CYLINDER HEAD BOLT REMOVAL
2. RETAINER LOCK REMOVAL
1. Using the special tool, compress the spring.
2. Remove the retainer locks
3. VALVE STEM SEAL REMOVAL
1) Do not reuse removed valve stem seals
INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS
1. VALVE STEM SEAL INSTALLATION
1. Using the special tool, install a new stem seal to the valve guide.
Note: Do not reuse removed valve stem seals. Always use the special tool to install the valve stem seal. Improperly installed valve stem seal may cause oil down.
2. VALVE SPRING INSTALLATION
1. Install the valve spring with the painted end on the rocker arm side
3. RETAINER LOCK INSTALLATION
1. The valve spring, if excessively compressed, causes the bottom end of retainer to be in contact with, and damage, the stem seal.
