SUBJECT:
AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE REAR CLUTCH IMPROVEMENTS

PURPOSE
This bulletin contains information about improved automatic transaxle rear clutch parts introduced for the 3-speed (3A/T) and 4-speed (4A/T) automatic transaxles. These new parts have added durability allowing the clutch disks to last longer.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The clutch face material has been changed on the rear clutch disks for added durability for the 3-speed automatic transaxles and all listed 4-speed automatic transaxles. Also, for the 3A/T, the inner accumulator spring constant value is changed.

AFFECTED VEHICLES





All vehicles equipped with the automatic transaxles as shown.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION

^ 3 A/T
Clutch disk face material and a new accumulator spring were introduced into production on all 3-speed automatic transaxles beginning August 21,1996.

^ 4 A/T
Clutch disk face material was changed during production of the affected 4-speed automatic transaxles according to the following schedule:

F4A21/22/23: Beginning December 11,1996
W4A32: Beginning December 13, 1996
W4A33: Beginning December 12, 1996

3 A/T - F3A21
The illustrated parts are improved. Use only the new part numbers when replacing the rear clutch assembly, disk assembly, and/or inner accumulator spring.





CAUTION:
When replacing the rear clutch disk assembly, always replace the inner accumulator spring with the new type.








4 A/T - F4A21, F4A22, F4A23, F4A32, W4A33
The rear clutch assembly is changed.
