SHOULD YOU REQUIRE SERVICE
In the event the Multi-Use Tester-II does not operate properly, the following steps should be taken before calling MMSA.
1. Make sure the power supply and harness connectors are hooked up properly. In most cases the ignition key must be in the "ON" position. (Note: MMSA recommends that a second harness assembly, part number MB991497 be purchased and stored as a spare for emergency situations.)
2. Make sure the ROM pack is the correct unit, and that it is installed correctly.
3. Make sure the problem is not with the vehicle. Will the Multi-Use Tester-II work with other systems on the same car, or will it work with an identical system on an identical car?
A. Make sure the data link connector pins have not been damaged. Do the pins appear straight?
B. Check the data link ground pin and the appropriate pin for the system you are trying to work with (MPI, ECS, etc). Can you use a test meter to get a trouble code from the diagnostic connector pin (see the appropriate service manual for instructions)?
If the answer is yes to questions A and B, the problem is most likely with the Multi-Use Tester-II. (Contact MMSA Special Tool Coordinator as stated above).
