Disassembly

Fig. 2 Exploded View Of Manual Steering Gear:

1. Disassemble steering gear in numbered sequence as shown, Fig. 2, noting the following:
a. Remove tie rod end snap ring, then the dust cover.
b. Cut and remove band securing bellow.
c. Remove bellow securing clip, then the bellow from tie rod.
d. Unstake tab washer which attaches tie rod and rack, then remove tie rod from rack.

Fig. 3 Rack Removal From Gear Housing:

e. Remove rack from gear housing in direction shown, Fig. 3, to avoid damaging gearbox bushing.
