Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Manually turn oil pump several complete turns.
3. Turn steering wheel from stop to stop.
4. Disconnect ignition coil high tension cable.
5. Rotate engine using starter motor and turn steering wheel from stop to stop for 15 to 20 seconds, refilling fluid in reservoir as necessary. Only bleed system while cranking engine. Never bleed system with engine running.
6. Connect ignition coil cable, then start engine and allow to idle.
7. Turn steering wheel from stop to stop until no air bubbles appear in fluid in reservoir.
8. Confirm fluid is not milky and fluid level does not change significantly when steering wheel is turned from stop to stop.
9. Ensure fluid level does not change by more than 0.2 inch when engine is turned off.
10. If fluid level change is more than specified, all air has not been bled from system. Leave steering system undisturbed for several minutes, then repeat bleed procedure.
