Intercooler: Description and Operation

PURPOSE/OPERATION
The charge air cooler is a heat exchanger designed to increase intake air density by removing excess heat from the intake air. Cooling the intake air increases the air density and efficiency of the combustion mixture, this helps reduce combustion chamber temperature. Reducing the chance of engine ping, and allowing higher boost pressures.
