Inspection

1. Ensure silent shaft oil holes are not clogged and journal is inspected for seizure, damage or contact with bearing. If so, replace bearing or front case assembly.
2. Measure silent shaft clearance. If clearance is excessive due to wear, replace silent shaft bearing, silent shaft or front case assembly. Clearance should be as follows:
a. Right: front, 0.0008-0.0024 inch; rear, 0.0020-0.0036 inch.
b. Left: front, 0.0008-0.0021 inch; rear, 0.0020-0.0036 inch.
3. Ensure oil pump side clearance of each gear is as follows:
a. Drive gear: 0.0031-0.0055 inch.
b. Driven gear: 0.0024-0.0047 inch.
