Oil Pan: Service and Repair
1. Remove oil pan mounting bolts, then tap oil pan remover tool between cylinder block and oil pan.2. Remove oil pan by placing a brass bar at corner of oil pan remover tool, then tap with a hammer. Do not use a screwdriver, chisel or similar tool when removing oil pan.
3. Check oil pan and screen for damage, cracks or clogging and replace as necessary.
4. Using a wire brush, scrape clean all gasket surfaces of cylinder block and oil pan ensuring all loose material is removed.
5. Ensuring gasket surfaces are free of oil and dirt, apply sealant, No.MD970389, or equivalent, around gasket surface of oil pan. Sealant should be applied in a continuous bead approximately 0.16 inch in diameter.
6. Assemble oil pan to cylinder block within 15 minutes after applying sealant. After installing oil pan, wait at least 30 minutes before starting engine.
