Crankshaft: Service and Repair
REMOVALFig. 26 Exploded View Of Cylinder Block & Crankshaft Assembly:
Refer to Fig. 26 when removing crankshaft and main bearings.
INSTALLATION
Refer to Fig. 26 when installing crankshaft and main bearings, noting the following:
1. Torque main bearing caps to 47-51 ft. lbs.
2. Install main upper bearing on cylinder block and lower bearing on main bearing caps.
3. Install crankshaft and apply engine oil to journals.

4. Caps should be installed with arrows facing forward and in proper number order, Fig. 27.
5. Tighten main bearing cap bolts to specification and check to ensure crankshaft rotates freely and has proper endplay.
6. Using crankshaft rear oil seal installer tool No. MD998011, or equivalent, install seal in case.
7. Install oil separator into case with 0.16 inch diameter oil hole in lowest position.
8. Install new oil seal case gasket and oil seal case assembly.
9. Install rear plate to cylinder block.
10. On models with manual transaxle, install flywheel and tighten bolts to specification, then check clutch mounting surface for runout.
11. On models with automatic transaxle, install adapter plates and driveplate, then tighten bolts to specifications.
