Starter Motor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly, if applicable.
3. Remove intake manifold stay, if applicable.
4. On Precis models, remove EGR valve on California models, then remove speedometer cable.
5. On all models, remove starter cover, if applicable.
6. Disconnect starter cables.
7. Remove starter mounting bolts, then the starter.

INSTALLATION

1. Before mounting starter, clean the mating surfaces of starter and the engine.
2. Install starter and torque mounting bolts to 20-25 ft. lbs.
3. Connect starter cables.
4. Install starter cover, if applicable.
. Install intake manifold stay, if applicable.
6. On Precis models, install EGR valve on California models, then install speedometer cable.
7. Install air cleaner assembly, if applicable.
8. Connect battery ground cable.
