PURPOSE

Some 1991 5-speed manual transmissions used in Eclipse, Galant, and Mirage vehicles incorporate a reverse brake cone mounting screw with a hexagon socket head ("Allen head") instead of a cross headed ("Phillips head") screw. If during servicing you encounter a hexagon socket head ("Allen head"), torque the reverse brake cone mounting screw to 6-7.5 N-m (4.4-5.5 ft.lbs.)

REVERSE BRAKE CONE TORQUE

Hexagon socket head ("Allen head") - 6-7.5 N-m (4.4-5.5 ft.lbs.)

Cross headed ("Phillips head") - 4-5.5 N-m (2.9-4.5 ft.lbs.)
