NO.: TSB-96-22-003 (Revised)DATE: November, 1996
MODEL: 1990-92 Eclipse
SUBJECT:
MANUAL TRANSAXLE SHIFT QUALITY - SYNCHRONIZER KITS
This bulletin replaces the original version of TSB-96-22-003 dated September, 1996, which should be discarded. Some part number information for the 1990-91 F5M33-2 and W5M33-2 transaxles is changed. Also, a new part number for the 1992 lst/2nd Synchro Kit (F5M33-2 and W5M33-2 with "double type" 2nd synchro ring) is added.
PURPOSE
Hard shifting, gear clashing, and difficulty in selecting gears with the shift lever, often caused by dragging the clutch, may also be caused by worn synchronizers in the transmission, This bulletin contains information on synchronizer kits to correct the latter condition.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1990-92 Eclipse (To determine the transaxle model, refer to the table:)
TRANSAXLE MODEL DESCRIPTION
F5M22-2 Front-wheel drive manual transaxle used with 2.0L DOHC non-turbo engine
F5M33-2 Front-wheel drive manual transaxle used with 2.0L DOHC turbo engine
W5M33-2 All-wheel drive manual transaxle used with 2.0L DOHC turbo engine
INSTRUCTIONS
After determining that the shift quality is the result of worn synchronizers and not some problem with the clutch - such as clevis adjustment, hydraulic system, release bearing, pilot bearing, pressure plate or disc - remove the transaxle from the vehicle as described in the service manual for the model being repaired. Disassemble the transaxle according to the Manual Transmission Overhaul Manual. Carefully inspect all parts. Replace worn synchronizers with the synchronizer kits listed in the tables.
