SUBJECT: MODIFICATION OF MANUAL TRANSAXLE SYNCHRONIZER COMPONENTS


PURPOSE

This Technical Service Bulletin explains a modification to the 1-2 synchronizer sleeve, 1-2 spring, and 3-4 spring for the 1991 vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle. This modification does not apply to Trucks or Monteros.

DESCRIPTION

To improve shift feel quality for vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle, the 1-2 synchronizer sleeve, 1-2 spring, and 3-4 spring have been slightly modified; the inner groove of the sleeve was made narrower, and the inner diameter of both springs was reduced. Refer to Figure 1.


The modified parts have been installed on vehicles manufactured from November 11, 1990. When replacing synchronizer parts on vehicles which were produced before 11/11/90, interchangeability is possible, as long as the new 1-2 synchronizer sleeve, hub, and spring are installed at the same time. The 3-4 spring may be replaced without replacing the 3-4 synchronizer hub and sleeve, since the 3-4 hub and sleeve have not been modified.


PARTS INFORMATION

Refer to the following charts when ordering the new parts. Order the new numbers only and replace all 1-2 synchronizer components at the same time. The 3-4 synchronizer spring is replaced only on F5M33, W5M31, and W5M33 model transaxles. Use the following charts to determine correct part numbers and applicable transaxles.
