1. Refer to Figs. 7 through 9, for disassembly procedures noting the following:
a. Remove inner shaft assembly, with seal plate, from the TJ case as shown in Fig. 10, using special tool MB991248 or equivalent.
b. Use special tool MB990810-01 or equivalent, when removing inner shaft from center bearing bracket.
c. Remove center bearing from center bracket using special tool MB990938-01, and MB990930-01 or equivalent, as shown in Fig. 11.
d. On Diamante and 3000GT models, wrap splines on driveshaft with tape, so that the TJ and BJ boots are not damaged when removed. Remove TJ and BJ boots from shaft.
2. On all models, reverse procedures to install noting the following:
a. Apply grease to rear surface of dust seals.

b. On Galant, Expo and Eclipse models, press inner seal using special tools MB990938-01, and MB990933-01 or equivalents, and outer seal using MB990938-01, and MB990931-01 or equivalents, as shown in Fig. 12.
c. On Diamante and 3000GT models, press inner seal using special tool MB990890-01 or equivalent, and outer seal using MB990934-01, and MB990890-01 or equivalent, as shown in Fig. 13.
d. On all models, installing TJ case and inner shaft assembly, applying multipurpose grease to the inner shaft spline.
e. Press seal plate into TJ case as shown in Fig. 14, using special tool MB9911248 or equivalent.
f. Set distance between TJ boot bands to 3.23-3.47 inches on except Expo and 3.42-3.66 inches on Expo, then secure boot bands.
