Magnetic Switch Hold-In Test

Fig. 7 Testing Magnetic Switch Hold-In Function:





1. Disconnect field coil wire from ``M'' terminal of magnetic switch, Fig. 7.
2. Connect a 12 volt battery between ``S'' terminal and body ground. This test must be performed in less than 10 seconds to prevent coil from burning out.
3. If pinion remains out, magnetic switch is operating correctly. If pinion moves in, hold-in circuit is open and the magnetic switch must be replaced.
