Fig. 33 Replacing Rear Axle Hub:
1. Remove rear axle hub in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 33, noting the following:
a. Care must be used when handling the pole piece at tip of ABS speed sensor and toothed edge of rotor so as not to damage them or striking against other components.
b. Remove caliper assembly and support to frame using suitable wire.
c. Using end yoke holder tool No. MB990767-01 or equivalent, secure axle hub and remove companion flange self-locking nut.
d. Using axle puller and slide hammer tool Nos. MB990211-01 and MB990241-01 or equivalent, remove rear axle hub.
e. Press off ABS rotor from axle hub.
f. Press off outer bearing and dust shield from axle hub.
g. Using seal remover tool Nos. MB990938-01 and MB990928-01 or equivalent, remove axle hub seal and inner bearing from axle housing.
2. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install inner bearing using bearing installer tool Nos. MB990931-01 and MB990938-01 or equivalent.
b. Install oil seal using oil seal installer tool No. MB990931-01 or equivalent. Apply multi-purpose grease to lip of oil seal.
c. Install dust shields using ball joint dust cover installer tool No. MB990799-01 or equivalent.
d. Install outer bearing after applying multi-purpose grease to bearing surfaces.
e. Install ABS rotor with groove in surface pointing toward axle shaft flange.
