SUBJECT:
WHEEL LUG NUT TORQUE
PURPOSE
This bulletin is issued to emphasize the importance of proper wheel lug nut torquing. ALL WHEEL LUG NUTS SHOULD BE TORQUED USING A TORQUE WRENCH, NOT AN IMPACT GUN. Improper wheel lug nut torque could cause wheel damage, rotor warpage, hub warpage, and/or brake pulsation.
Typically a pneumatic or an electric impact gun will not allow accurate torquing of the lug nuts. Brake rotor and hub warpage can result when the nuts are over-tightened or tightened unevenly. Also, studs can break or strip if tightened too tight.
As an aid to technicians, included in this bulletin, is a Wheel Lug Nut Torque specification table for the various vehicles.
