NO. TSB-91-55-007

DATE August, 1991

MODEL Mirage, Eclipse, Truck, 3000GT

SUBJECT:

AIR SELECTION CONTROL
CABLE ADJUSTMENT

PURPOSE

This Technical Service Bulletin describes the adjustment of the ventilation system's air selection control cable when the control cable lever does not move correctly through its full range of motion.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1991 Mirage, 1991 Eclipse, 1991 3000GT (base model with manually operated A/C), and 1991 Truck.

DESCRIPTION

If you encounter an air selection control lever that sticks, binds, or does not operate throughout its full range of intended motion, perform the following adjustment procedure.

NOTE: Components of the ventilation control system vary slightly in shape, size, and location. The illustrations shown in this Technical Service Bulletin do not match every vehicle, but they are helpful in understanding the adjustment procedure.

Figure 1. Glove Box Disassembly:

1. To gain access to the control cable, remove the glove box stopper(s) or screws, lowering the box forward and downward (Figure 1).

NOTE: Truck and Eclipse have stoppers. Mirage has screws. 3000GT has a combination of both.

On the 3000GT, the upper portion of the glove box must also be removed (Figure 1).

Figure 2:

2. Set the air selection control lever to the (inside air) position. For Trucks, set the lever in the (outside air) position (Figure 2).

Figure 3:

3. Locate the control cable and damper lever. Disconnect the cable inner wire from the damper lever and the cable outer casing from the retaining clip (Figure 3).

Figure 4:

4. Position the control cable damper lever so it makes contact with the stopper (Figure 4).

Figure 5:

5. Connect the inner wire of the control cable to the end of the damper lever (Figure 5).

Figure 6:

6. Connect the outer casing of the control cable wire to its retaining clip, making sure the air selection lever on the instrument panel remains in the (inside air) position. For Trucks, the air selection lever on the instrument panel must remain the the (outside air) position (Figure 6).

Figure 7:

7. Move the air selection lever through its full rartge of motion two or three times, returning it to the (inside air) position. For Trucks, return the lever to the (outside air) position (Figure 7).

Figure 8:

8. Observe the control damper lever. It should be in contact with the stopper as in step number 4. Also, the slide pin in the upper portion of the damper lever must be positioned within range "A" shown in Figure 8. If not, repeat steps 2-7.

9. After completing the adjustment procedure, reassemble the glove box.
