Purpose

This bulletin provides instructions for the replacement of the timing belt (A) on certain 1990-1991 2.0L DOHC Eclipse, 1989-1991 2.0L DOHC Galant, and 1989-1991 1.6L DOHC Mirage vehicles. All affected vehicle owners will be notified by a letter requesting them to return their vehicles to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the timing belt replaced. A sample letter is shown in this bulletin.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

The procedure described in this bulletin applies only to CERTAIN:
1990-1991 2.0L DOHC (4G63) Eclipse - Turbo and Non-Turbo 1989-1991 2.0L DOHC (4G63) Galant - Turbo and Non-Turbo 1989-1991 1.6L DOHC (4G61) Mirage.

It does not apply to any other models NOR to vehicles which have already had the timing belt replaced using one of these part numbers:

MD182291 or MD171748 (Eclipse/Galant)
MD199418 or MD182201 (Mirage).

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified in three staggered mailings based on the date of sale, oldest vehicles first.





Owners will not receive a letter if warranty records indicate that their vehicle has had a repair which included timing belt replacement using oil of the following part numbers:

MD182291 or MD171748 (Eclipse/Galant)
MD199418 or MD182201 (Mirage).
