Refer to Figs. 46 and 47, when removing silent shaft, oil pump and front case. Keep silent shaft in position by inserting a screwdriver through plug hole in left side of cylinder block and remove oil pump driven gear securing bolt.

1. Install silent shaft in cylinder block.
2. Install oil pump drive and driven gears in front case, ensuring that the gear timing marks are aligned, Fig. 48.
3. Using small end of oil seal guide tool No. MD998375-01 or equivalent on all except 1.8L/4-107 engines, or No. MD998304 or equivalent on 1.8L/4-107 engines, install crankshaft front oil seal, Figs. 49 and 50. If crankshaft front oil seal is already mounted to front case, use oil seal guide for protection of oil seal.
4. Install front case.
5. Insert a screwdriver through plug hole in left side of cylinder block to keep shaft in position, Fig. 22, then tighten bolt to specifications.
6. Install oil filter bracket assembly and gasket, then tighten front case bolts and oil filter bracket bolts to specifications.
7. Install plug cap.
8. Install oil screen and gasket, then clean gasket surfaces of cylinder block and oil pan.
9. Install oil pan gasket, if equipped, using a small amount of suitable gasket sealant. If no gasket is used, apply a .16 inch (4mm) wide bead of suitable sealant to entire circumference of oil pan flange.

10. Install oil pan and tighten bolts to specifications. Note difference in bolt length shown in Fig. 51.
