PURPOSE
The recommended engine oil for all 1991 model year vehicles is API Engine Service Classification "SG." Engine oils having the classification of "SF" only, are not recommended on 1991 models.
The viscosity of the motor oil should be selected for the anticipated ambient operating temperature range as specified in the "LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE" section in the applicable Service Manual.
For models prior to 1991, the API classification and viscosity recommendations are located in the "LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE" section in the appropriate Service Manual.
NOTE: The API classification of the engine oil must be as high or higher than the recommendabons in the Service Manual. The viscosity of the motor oil should be chosen for the probable ambient temperature range as specified in the applicable Service Manual.
IDENTIFICATION
A standard symbol appears on the oil containers and has three distinct areas for identifying various characteristics of the oil. The top portion will indicate the classification of the oil (ex. SG, SF). The center portion will show the SAE viscosity grade such as SAE 10/40. "Energy Conserving" shown in the lower portion indicates that the oil has fuel-saving capabilities.
