Procedure

On models equipped with airbags, serious injury can result from unintended airbag deployment. To disarm the airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.

Using ABS Warning Light

Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS for diagnosis procedures.

Using Multi-Use Tester (MUT)

Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS for charts referred to in this section.

1. With ignition switch Off, connect the MUT through the adapter harness, turn ignition switch On and select the ABS system. In the MUT mode, ABS does not function.
2. The ABS warning light should light when in the MUT mode. If access is not possible, check ECU power circuit and harness between ECU and diagnosis check terminal.
3. Read and record diagnosis output codes.
4. Clear diagnosis codes once from memory.
5. If memory can be cleared, the trouble is either intermittent or appears only when driving.
6. If memory cannot be cleared, the ECU is currently detecting the trouble and the ABS ECU is in fail safe.
7. When trouble codes cannot be cleared, or when the ABS ECU goes into fail safe during another test drive and trouble codes are output, proceed as follows:
a. On FWD Eclipse and Expo models, check according to diagnosis code chart and diagnostic code check charts.
b. On AWD Eclipse and Expo models, check according to diagnosis code chart and diagnostic code check charts.
c. On FWD Galant models, check according to diagnosis code chart and diagnostic code check charts.
